In the storm of data we process everyday (around 34 gigabytes) it has always been a struggle not only to focus on what really matters but also to retain information in a way we can use it to produce new creative ideas. Steve Jobs famously said "Creativity is just connecting things", which emphasises how much creativity depends on how well we can connect things and our ability to make associations between seemingly unrelated ideas to yield new ideas.

Nurturing our idea generation capabilities demands much more than just selective attention; it requires the implementation of effective strategies for assimilating knowledge and having the right tools to preserve it in a way that enables making associations.

At Memento, we understand the importance of a well-organized knowledge base, therefore we have built a simple yet effective tagging system that allows to put one or several tags on each of your notes, weblinks, images, pdfs etc. and essentially connect all your ressources.

The Power Of Tags

Tags play a crucial role in simplifying content organization by providing a flexible and intuitive way to categorize information. This non-hierarchical approach allows content creators and consumers to easily navigate through a diverse range of topics without being confined to a rigid hierarchical structure.

By associating keywords and phrases with specific pieces of content, tags act as informative labels that encapsulate the essence of the material. This not only helps with quickly grasping the central themes of a single piece but also facilitates efficient content discovery across various topics

Once all your tags are set, each piece of content goes from being a standalone item in a cluttered content space to a significant capture linked to other relevant items. Navigating through your content becomes a much more enjoyable and productive experience.

Content Tagging Can Be Tedious

Effective content organization requires discipline, which can be challenging during busy periods, but is crucial for maintaining a well structured content base that enables you to search and revisit your content seamlessly. Finding an item in a messy room is much harder and takes much more effort than in a tidy one where each piece of clothing, book or document has a dedicated storage space.

To keep the room tidy, you need to put in constant effort to prevent clutter, and the same applies for tags. We wanted to make tagging as frictionless as possible so we tried to come up with the most straightforward ways to tag on the spot each piece of content as you capture it into your Memento:

  • Tagging with our Chrome Extension Using our chrome extension your can capture with one click the link to an article, blog post, website etc. In addition to that, you can at the same time put the relevant tags on your capture, without leaving your web page

  • Tagging when adding from mobile ๐Ÿ“ฑ Each time you add new item, there is an aggregation widget that systematically shows up to suggest follow up actions. From there, you can add one or more tag on your freshly collected piece of content, without any interruption in your navigation. Once your tags are added, the menu closes leading you back to where you were ๐Ÿ‘‡

  • Automate tagging with AI ๐Ÿช„ Manual tagging can become repetitive and cumbersome sometimes, which leads to slackness and eventually escalates into chaos. To avoid that, you can leverage our AI capabilities to tag your piece of content based on your tags and only your tags. For each item added, we will evaluate which of your tags fits best and do the heavy-lifting for you. All you need to do is create your tags once, and we take care of the rest

You will notice here that unlike the previous screen capture, when we tried to open the tagging menu, our link was already tagged with "Documentary" and "History" by our AI, so there was nothing to do.

In conclusion, the implementation of a robust content organization system, exemplified here by the efficiency of a well-designed tagging system, can truly unlock the full potential of your content. Content creators striving to provide the best content, students aiming to get organized, and creative minds seeking inspiration can all find comfort in a thoughtfully organized content system. The benefits are multifold, ranging from heightened productivity and ease of retrieval to the fostering of innovative ideas through interconnected knowledge. Embracing a content organization approach not only optimizes resource utilization but also empowers individuals and organizations to navigate the vast sea of information with confidence and purpose.
